On The Trail
Progressive Bluegrass - Modern Acoustic Quartet - Newgrass
About
At the end of the day, On the Trail is really just four best friends who happen to be incredible musicians. You can feel that chemistry the second they hit the stage—there’s this genuine joy and 'vibe' that’s hard to find anywhere else. They’ve been tearing it up across the Northeast for years, headlining festivals and winning over crowds with a mix of crazy-good virtuosity and original songs that are just plain fun.
It’s a bit of a powerhouse lineup: you’ve got our current CT State Troubadour Charlie Widmer, the bluegrass sweetheart Austin Scelzo, Tom Polizzi absolutely shredding on mandolin and guitar, and Matt Curley keeping the whole thing locked in on bass. If you want to see a band that actually loves what they do, you’ve got to catch them live.
What People Say
"The energy and excitement "On the Trail" brings to both on and off the stage is infectious! They have all the makings of a truly GREAT bluegrass band combining exquisite musicianship, superb vocals, quality professionalism, and strong audience appeal! We are proud to have them as the winners of the 2022 Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass Showcase Competition and were excited to have them included in the 2023 line-up. They did not disappoint! The band has been enjoying tremendous success and continues to stay true to who they are with an ever growing collection of original music that continues to earn them new fans at each performance." - Shari Elder, Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass Festival
”What a treat it was to see this amazingly talented up and coming band at the Grey Fox music festival this summer. Their sets included songs they have played in the past and a few I had never heard before. Highlights for me were Baton Rouge, an old favorite of mine that with their energy and vocals, the band absolutely lit the song as well as the crowd up. June Apple, a great tune with sharp fiddle and vocals sung by Austin and now my favorite version is OWNED by this dynamic quartet of bluegrass musicians. Then there came Upon the Knoll, a quiet waltz that Charlie sings and goosebumps form for me with the hauntingly beautiful melody. Grand Rapids, a great, toe tapping instrumental written by Tom. Finally, What Do I Need With Love, a song that really starts to showcase the amazing pipes that Charlie possesses, left the stunned audience in awe of what magical music these guys are capable of." - Todd Michael - Podunk Bluegrass Festival, Host WWUH Bluegrass show.WWUH 91.3 WWUH.ORG
”On the Trail's performance at Ossipee Valley was sensational; the breadth of material they cover is impressive; their artful arrangements and crisp execution are never "ho-hum"; the top-notch vocals (and the energy, joy and beaming smiles they exhibit from first note to last) make this among the most entertaining and fun up-and-coming groups to hit the scene in a long time. Don't miss On The Trail!" - Mike Dwyer
